THE COUPLES ROOM · YOUR QUESTIONS

Before we begin.

A little clarity can make the first step feel easier.

Starting couples therapy can bring up a lot of questions. Here are some straightforward answers about how we work, what to expect and whether this feels right for you.

Find what you need, at your own pace.

01FIRST STEPS

Getting started

There's no need to arrive with the perfect words or a shared explanation of what has gone wrong.

What happens in the free introductory call?

We meet for a free 15-minute video call. It's a chance for us to meet, understand a little more about what's been difficult, and see how I can support you best. You can also ask questions and get a feel for how I work.

Do we both need to join the introductory call?

Ideally, yes. Hearing a little from both of you helps us begin with a shared picture. If that feels difficult to arrange, you can reach out first and we can discuss the best way to start.

What if one of us is unsure about therapy?

That's common. You don't need to feel equally ready. We can make space for different hopes, doubts and levels of motivation, without pressuring either of you to promise a particular outcome.

Do we need to know exactly what our problem is?

Not at all. Many couples know that something doesn't feel right, but struggle to put it into words. Part of our work is understanding what happens between you and why familiar conversations keep leading to the same place.

02THE PRACTICAL SIDE

Sessions & fees

Clear details, so you can spend less energy on logistics and more on your relationship.

How much does couples therapy cost?

Couples therapy is €250 for a 75-minute session. The introductory 15-minute video call is free.

Are sessions online?

Yes. The Couples Room offers English-speaking online couples therapy. You can join from a private, comfortable space with a stable internet connection. Whether sessions can be offered in your country will be confirmed before we begin.

How often will we meet?

Weekly sessions are often helpful at the beginning, when we're getting to know your dynamic and building momentum. We can discuss the pace that suits your needs and circumstances, and review it together as therapy progresses.

How many sessions will we need?

There's no fixed number. Some couples want support around a particular difficulty; others want to work more deeply with long-standing patterns. We'll make sense of your goals together and check in regularly about how the work is helping.

03THE WORK WE DO

Finding the right fit

Your relationship doesn't need to fit a label to deserve care and attention.

Do you work with international and expat couples?

Yes. I work with couples navigating life between languages, cultures and countries. Moving abroad can reshape identity, family roles, friendships, belonging and the balance of responsibilities at home. Those experiences have a place in our conversations.

What about ADHD or autism in a relationship?

I offer neurodivergence-informed couples therapy, including for partners with ADHD and autism. We look at sensory needs, emotional regulation, communication, masking and mental load, alongside the attachment experiences and emotional histories each partner brings. Differences deserve understanding, and both partners still deserve care and accountability.

What if we keep having the same argument?

That's often where our work begins. Instead of deciding who is right, we'll slow the cycle down and look at what each of you is protecting, longing for or reacting to. Then we'll practise different ways of reaching each other.

Will you just listen, or help us make changes?

I'm not a silent observer. My approach is active, warm and collaborative. I offer reflections, gentle challenges and practical ways to translate what we discover into everyday moments between you.

Can couples therapy help if there is fear or intimidation?

Emotional and physical safety come first. Where there is coercion, threats, intimidation or ongoing abuse, standard couples work may not be appropriate. We would need to consider safety and whether individual or specialist support is a safer starting point.

Not quite ready to put it into words?

That's okay. You can bring your questions, your uncertainty and your own perspective. We can start there.
